Members of the Buffalo Police Department were out in full force Saturday morning helping to clean up and beautify sections of the Queen City. Buffalo Police were joined with individuals from the City of Buffalo Courts Program, City Hall, Block Clubs and a number of other organizations to clean various lots on the east and west sides of the city.

Lt. Steve Nichols of the Buffalo Police Department was one of the main organizer's of the event. He said the main goal was to turn the vacant lots into vegetable gardens for the community to enjoy.

Buffalo Police, the courts and the Weed and Seed program all worked together to get individuals who are sentenced to community service or first time offenders to take part in the event. Lt. Nichols said by getting these individuals involved in the community, maybe they would respect he neighborhood and take pride it in.

Hundreds of volunteers helped out with the event. And the hope is to keep it going through out the summer.
