Cause Under Investigation After Explosion Behind HSBC Arena

Three people were injured following an explosion behind HSBC Arena this morning at around 9:15am. Investigators say the explosion happened inside of a Budget Rental vehicle used for deliveries. Authorities say that a number of propane tanks were found inside of the vehicle. The explosion apparently occurred shortly after the three individuals opened the back door of the truck. The three individuals apparently work for Sports Service. All three were taken to ECMC for minor first and second degree burns. All three have been treated and released.

Buffalo Police, Buffalo Fire, ATF and Homeland Security officials all responded to the scene. Buffalo Fire Marshalls continue to investigate the exact cause of the explosion but it does not appear to be terrorist related.

The Budget Rental Vehicle suffered extensive damage from the explosion including the roof blowing off. Parts from the Budget truck did strike and damage another vehicle. That vehicle was a 2002 Saturn.
