The following individuals were promoted to the position of lieutenant: Police Officer Linda D. Stanchak, Police Officer Frank A. Guevara, Police Officer Michelle R. Kubala, Detective James C. O'Donnell and Detective Sergeant Sallie A. Blersch. One individual, Detective Sherry L. Kiszewski, was promoted to the rank of detective sergeant. Six police officers were promoted to the rank of detective. They are: Sean K. Buth, James P. Dunham, Carl A. Lundin, Thomas A. McCarthy, David J. Rambino and Louis S. Ruberto. Commissioner Gipson said the twelve promotions will continue to bolster the ranks of the Buffalo Police Department. With about 75 new police officers expected to graduate from the training academy in June or July, the department had the ability to promote the current officers to lieutenants or detectives. The Commissioner said " The department continues to make progress and reach its goals, especially in the areas of reducing crime and the pending addition of new surveillance cameras. The individuals promoted, will help the department continue to grow, especially in supervisory and investigative roles". Dozens of family and friends attended the jam packed ceremony, which was held in the second floor academy at Police Headquarters. Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards called the ceremony to order and then later on Commissioner Gipson issued the Oath of Office to the twelve.
