BPD Confiscate Hundreds of Counterfeit Sneakers

Buffalo Police have seized hundreds of pairs of counterfeit sneakers in a raid Thursday evening at a store located at 817 E. Delavan Ave. Detectives from the General Investigations Unit and Narcotics Squad conducted the raid, seizing the illegal footwear and made 3 arrests.

Arrested were: Sharif Ziyed Nasser, 17, Rafed A. Zayed, 35, and Mohamed Elwaseem, 36, of East Delavan Ave. who were charged with a felony count of trademark counterfeiting in the second degree. The three were additionally charged with possession of unstamped or untaxed cigarettes, since a quantity of cigarettes were not in their original packs, inside the store. "This raid was the culmination of an investigation into the store located at 817 East Delavan Ave." said Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards. "Along with grocery items, there was a selection of clothing and apparel available for purchase, at the store. However, the Nike brand sneakers for sale were confirmed to be counterfeit, by investigators."

A search warrant was obtained from City Court Judge Patrick Carney. Leading the raid were Sgt. Sherry Kiszewski of the General Investigation Unit and Lt. Thomas Lyon of the Narcotics Squad. "One can only imagine the money that is being made, at the expense of the legitimate business owners.

"The phoney footwear was being sold at $40.00 per pair," Richards said.
