Police believe the two may be responsible for as many as twenty or more burglaries that began in November of '07. The two suspects, one 15 years old, and the other 14 years old, were arrested Wednesday evening and charged in connection with two of the burglaries. Because of their ages, police are not releasing the suspects names. Once police discovered a pattern of break-ins, Deputy Commissioner Daniel Derenda authorized a special investigative unit in the area. The long hours of work paid off when police arrested the two male juveniles just before 5pm Wednesday. Police say the two apparently staked out locations, and waited for the residents to leave. Many of the incidents were committed by means of a brick thrown through a window. After entering the home, the two stole money and merchandise ranging from computers to jewelry and in some cases they even made off with weapons. Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson praised the work of the men and women of C District who spent countless hours on the case. While it definitely was a group effort, the work of one individual does deserve notice. On Wednesday afternoon, Officer Paul Sobkowiak , responded to a call involving someone throwing a brick through a window. Officer Sobkowiak went to the scene, got a description of the suspect, and not long after that, Police had tracked down the suspect. Later in the day, Police then caught up with the second suspect. Police also credit the community in helping authorities with tips which led to the arrests.
