Homicide Detectives Charge Ex-Boyfriend in Infant's Death

Buffalo Police homicide detectives have made an arrest in connection with the death of an infant that occurred almost 5 years ago.

Detectives have arrested 37 year old Raymond Gonzalez of Buffalo and charged him with 1st degree manslaughter in the death of thirteen month old James Velazquez of Busti Avenue, who died nearly five years ago due to blunt force trauma.  Police say that Gonzalez was baby-sitting in the home of his former girlfriend on May 2nd, 2010, when the incident occurred.

Detectives have also charged the mother's former boyfriend with a violation count of possession of marijuana.

The suspect was located around 10:00am Saturday morning, March 21st on Pennsylvania Street and Lakeview Avenue, and was charged with the infant's death.

Detective Christopher F. Sterlace booked the suspect, along with Detective Salvatore A. Valvo, of the Buffalo police Homicide Squad.

The lengthy investigation included assistance from the Erie County District Attorney's office and medical professionals.
