Father Arrested in Baby Assault

Buffalo police have made an arrest in the early Thursday morning assault of a 3 month old child, on Buffalo's west side. Homicide Squad Sgt. James P. Lonergan and Detective Mark J. Vaughn arrested 23 year old Thomas J. Walsh of Embassy Square Apartments, Tonawanda, NY, and charged him with first degree assault. Police charge that Walsh shook the infant, so violently as to "create a grave risk of death, and caused serious physical injuries to Jasmine Walsh," said Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards. The baby, was taken to Women and Childrens' Hospital for injuries suffered at her house, at 11 Pooley Place, in Buffalo. "Mr. Walsh was cooperative, and did make statements to police," Richards said.

Buffalo fire, police and ambulance personnel responded to a rescue call to the house where the child lives with her mother. She was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition, in the Intensive Care Unit.

Walsh was booked and taken to the Erie County Holding Center, where he is being held until his arraignment in Buffalo City Court, Friday morning.
