BPD Positively ID Female Body

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have positively identified the body of a 37 year old female from Buffalo. "The body of a female, who had been found in a vacant lot last month, has been positively identified, based on DNA analysis", said chief of detectives, Dennis J. Richards. Richards added, "The victim, we can now say with certainty, is Aretha Martin".

Ms. Martin had been reported missing from an East Ferry St. address and was the subject of a police manhunt at the time her body was discovered in a vacant lot in the vicinity of 505 Walden Avenue near May St.

The gruesome discovery was made June 5th, around 9:30 in the morning. Her body was located by Buffalo Homicide Detectives with assistance from a state trooper and his cadaver dog. The body had been at the location for some length of time and conditions made it difficult to make positive identification.

An autopsy confirmed that the victim had been shot. Police are asking for the public's cooperation as they continue their investigation into the murder.
