Police officers from local, state and fedral agencies and the general public attended the funeral held at the Trinity Episcopal Church on Delaware Avenue in Downtown Buffalo on Wednesday, February 6th. Officer Parete and Officer Carl Andolina were shot after responding to a fight call at a downtown mini mart on December 5th, 2006. Mayor Byron W. Brown, who spoke at the funeral, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Officer Parete saying "I know no words can ease your pain, but I want you to know that you are surrounded by people who care and a very grateful community. As a Buffalo police officer, "Patty" Parete paid the ultimate price to make our city a safer place to live. We are saddened by her loss yet extremely thankful for her service". Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said "Patricia Parete was a brave and courageous officer. We have suffered a tremendous loss, not only this department, but our city and community as well". Officer Daniel Meegan who delivered the eulogy said, "If Patty was here today she would be shaking her head wondering what all the fuss was about. Patty loved riding her motorcycle, her family and friends, her animals and her music". Officer Parete was 48 years old. |
