BPD Makes Arrest in Baby Death

Buffalo police were summoned to the Botanical Gardens area of South Park, around 12:50PM on September 19th, in the vicinity of the golf course, to investigate a dead body found in a garbage tote. "The homicide squad detectives commenced an immediate and exhaustive search for the mother of the apparently newborn child. The baby was found deceased inside a shoebox, in a park garbage tote," according to Dennis J. Richards, Chief of Detectives.

Today, investigators were able to track down the mother, and picked her up at her Lackawanna home. She was taken to Buffalo Police Headquarters for questioning. Police consulted assistant District Attorney James Bargnesi, regarding the results of the police investigation. Arrested and charged with murder in the second degree is Alicia Zebrun, 19 years old of Linden Ave., Lackawanna, NY.

Homicide Squad Sergeant James P. Lonergan led the investigation, assisted by Detectives Mark J. Vaughn, Reginald Minor and Scott Malec.

The suspect was in police custody at Erie County Medical Center late Monday night, and is expected to be arraigned on the murder charge in Buffalo City Court Tuesday morning.
