BPD Issues GPS Alert

GPS UnitThieves continue to target GPS Units both locally and nationally, With that in mind, Buffalo Police are reminding people of some basic safety tips. Police urge you to take the following steps:

  • Be especially careful not to leave anything in plain sight in your vehicle. Remove all valuables, especially your GPS Unit and that includes the suction cup. Thieves are looking for the "ring" the suction cup part of the unit leaves on the windshield and then breaking into the vehicle and looking for any valuables left behind.
  • Individuals should put their valuables in the trunk BEFORE arriving at their destination. Thieves could be watching, if you put your valuables in the trunk after you arrive.
  • Remove the face plate of your stereo.
  • Remove any loose money, keys or anything of value.
  • Park your vehicle in a well lit area where there is a lot of traffic. Do not park in a dark, isolated area.
  • Call 911 immediately if you see anything suspicious.
