New Class of Recruits Sworn in by BPD
Mayor Byron W. Brown and Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda welcomed 21 new recruits to the ranks of the Buffalo police department on Friday, January 18th.
Family, friends and police personnel packed the second floor academy at police headquarters for the late morning swearing in ceremony.
Commissioner Derenda issued the oath of office to the new recruits telling them that they have a tough road ahead as they begin six months of intense training.
With 750 current officers on the force, Mayor Brown said the recruits are joining the department at a time of tremendous growth in the city and noted that overall crime continues to decrease.
