BPD Make Arrest in Allen Street Sexual Assault

Buffalo police have arrested a suspect in a sexual assault that took place in the vicinity of Elmwood Avenue and Allen Street in the early morning of July 5th. A 24 year old victim was dragged into a nearby alley by a suspect, knocked to the ground and forcibly sexually assaulted.

The suspect also stole the victim's iPhone, when he fled on foot.

A thorough police investigation was commenced by Central District police, along with Sex Offense Squad Detective Natalie Perez. Police looked into surveillance cameras, as well as business cameras, and were able to locate the scene of the crime, and gather evidence, while the victim was treated at Erie County Medical Center for injuries sustained in the assault.

The suspect, identified as Dionte M. Cooper (12/11/1997), of Porter Avenue, was booked on charges of first degree rape, criminal sexual act in the first degree, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, around 2pm Saturday.

The suspect was located on Linwood Avenue, and brought to police headquarters for questioning, He was subsequently charged by Officers John A. Lattanzio and Melissa G. Brinson.
