New High Tech Speed Signs Unveiled on Parkside Avenue

Mayor Byron Brown and Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda unveiled new high tech speed signs on Parkside Avenue between the 198 and Jewett Parkway to help control speeding in that area.

The new, solar-powered signs flash the speed of drivers as they approach the devices. The purpose of the signs is to inform drivers when they are speeding and encourage them to slow down.

The blinking, bright signs are attached to street poles located just under posted speed limit signs.

Concerned residents in the Parkside area asked City officials to explore ways to curb fast-traveling motorists in an area near Delaware Park and the Buffalo Zoo.

Commissioner Derenda said the data from the signs will be examined over the new few weeks and police could eventually start issuing tickets to motorists for speeding.

Mayor Brown said the city might purchase additional speed signs.
