New BPD Rescue Device Helps Save Another Person

August - 3rd - 2012 - New BPD Rescue Device Helps Save Another Person

Buffalo police, with the help of their new rescue device “Life Sling”, helped pull a man from the Cazenovia Creek Thursday afternoon near Legion Drive and Stevenson Street in South Buffalo just before 2:30pm.

Police say two friends were racing in the water when one of them got tired, could not make it out and became exhausted.

South District officers Marc Jerabek and John Dixon responded to the rescue call, and using the department's new rescue device called " Life Sling" they were able to pull the 47 year old male to safety. The other male got out safely.

This is the second time the new rescue device helped save some one. On July 5th, officers saved an individual at the foot of Ferry in the overnight hours. Buffalo police began using the new device on July 4th. Just hours later, the device was needed in the early morning hours. The department is currently equipping all of their patrol cars with this new life saving measure.
