Mayor Brown Lifts Winter Overnight Parking Restrictions

Mayor Byron W. Brown and Common Council President Richard Fontana gathered at the steps of Buffalo City Hall today to announce that Buffalo has suspended the city’s winter overnight parking restrictions. The projected mild forecast for the remainder of the month prompted this action.

“This is the first time Buffalo has suspended the winter overnight parking restrictions early,” said Mayor Brown. “Thanks to the early spring like conditions, these restrictions are no longer needed at this time.”

To facilitate snow removal, the seasonal restrictions took effect November 15, 2011, prohibiting overnight parking on bus routes and other city streets until April First. The suspension of these restrictions could take effect as early as Thursday, after the Council meets in a special session to approve the item. (The restrictions shall retake effect on November 15, 2012.)

“This measure will provide a great convenience for city residents,” said Council President Fontana. “We’ve been blessed with early spring-like conditions that have given us the opportunity to lift the parking restrictions three weeks early.”

On average, 90 inches of snow falls on Buffalo each year. This season, only 34.2 inches of snow fell in Buffalo.
