36 year old Ambe Reede of Buffalo , the "person of interest" Buffalo police were seeking in connection with a Genesee Street bank robbery last week, has been arrested and charged for that incident. On December 7th, shortly after 2:30PM a suspect handed a teller a note demanding money from the HSBC bank, 2016 Genesee Street, and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. Police believe the suspect fled in a waiting vehicle. Through investigation by Detective Joy L. Jermain of the Northeast District, Reeder was identified as a person of interest in the bank robbery. Information about Reeder was disseminated to Buffalo area news media outlets, and tips from the public came in. Working closely with investigators from the local office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York State police, and the Arcade town police, the suspect was eventually located in a vehicle on Route 16 and Route 39 in Sardinia. He was taken into custody without incident, and transported back to Buffalo, where he was charged with robbery in the second degree. "This successful outcome is yet again proof of the close working relationship the Buffalo Police Department has established with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies," said Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards. "Through the efforts of quite a few officers, representing half a dozen agencies, a dangerous felon has been taken off the streets, to face justice," Richards added. Northeast District Detective Sergeant Steven M. Turner and Detectives James P. Dunham, Nicholas A. Mourgas, Cedric R. Holloway, along with State Trooper Richard Moeckler, Arcade Officer Matthew Krist, and DEA Task Force Agent Cory Higgins took part in the surveillance and arrest of the suspect. Reeder was taken to the Erie County Holding Center, and will be arraigned Friday morning, in Buffalo City Court. |
