Mayor Byron Brown Announces Arrest in East Side Fatal Hit and Run

BPD Accident Investigators arrest Niagara County resident

Mayor Byron W. Brown announced today that Buffalo Police Accident Investigators have arrested an individual in connection with the fatal hit and run that occurred Sunday morning, October 2nd.

The incident happened in the 1100 block of Broadway at approximately 6:15am. Investigators say that a vehicle was traveling westbound on Broadway when it struck 48 year old April M. Smith of Buffalo. She was declared dead at the scene.

Early Tuesday evening, October 25th, The Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit arrested 32 year old Michael Held of North Tonawanda following an intensive three plus week investigation.

Lt. Joseph Pierchala of the Accident Investigation Unit said police followed leads with parts suppliers, auto repair shops and tips from the public.

Buffalo police received assistance from many local agencies including the Amherst Police Department and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
