Mayor Brown Announces Homicide Arrest

Delaware Avenue Suspect Charged with Murder in the Second Degree

BUFFALO–Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced that the Buffalo Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred in the 2400 block of Delaware Avenue. Around 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 Officer Lisa Holloway of the Mayor's Impact Team was flagged down by a citizen who reported suspicious activity at an apartment complex on Delaware Avenue near Tacoma Avenue. Northwest District officers assisted in the investigation, and discovered a deceased male in the kitchen of one of the apartments.
"There were definite signs of violence in the apartment, and Homicide Squad and Crime Scene Unit personnel were called in," said Dennis J. Richards, Chief of Detectives. "The residents of the apartment were not present when the police arrived on the scene, and they were sought through the night by investigators.”
Detectives Mario T. Pratts and Patrick J. Judge were able to locate the suspect. Sean Barill, 24, has been charged with murder in the second degree. Barill is a resident of the apartment where the homicide occurred.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan D. Walton and Detective Kevin T. Biggs assisted in the investigation. The deceased black male remains unidentified, and police are continuing to determine who he is.
