BPD Make Arrest in Fatal Shooting

Arrest of Homicide Suspect

Buffalo police have charged a man in connection with the Tuesday morning, March 15th murder of another man in the vicinity of Glenwood Avenue and Main Street.

The shooting victim, identified as 32 year old Alonzo Scott of Buffalo was struck multiple times by gunfire, about 9:10am, according to Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards.
Officers from the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority and Buffalo police departments responded to calls of shots being fired, and located the mortally wounded victim. Scott was rushed to Erie County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe the suspect, 28 year old Dwyne Gray of Buffalo, fled the shooting scene on foot, to the nearby Utica Street subway station. He was later chased by police, when he ran from the Main-Delavan subway station.

He was pursued over several blocks, by NFTA, Buffalo and Canisius College Public Safety officers.

The suspect was located on Purdy Street, and brought to Buffalo police headquarters, and later charged with the murder. "A handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, was also recovered by police in the course of their investigation," Richards said.

Police Officers Michael Bass and Michael Bennett made the arrest, assisted by Detective Sergeant Jonathan Walton and Detectives Mario Pratts, Antonio Borrelli and Patrick Judge, of the Homicide Squad. NFTA Detectives Joseph Catanzaro, David Wayne and Christopher DiPasquale also assisted in the investigation leading to the arrest of Gray.
