Homicide Detectives Make Arrests in East Side Fatal Shooting

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives worrked quickly to make two arrests in connection with a fatal East Side shooting.

The incident happened Tuesday night, July 20th, at approximately 11:45pm near the intersection of Walden Avenue and St. Louis Avenue.

Two people were shot including 17 year old Damion Diggs of Buffalo who was declared dead at the scene.

The second victim, 22 year James Hairston of Buffalo, was treated and released from ECMC for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Detectives believe a long-standing feud between a number of individuals may've boiled over Tuesday night  resulting in the shootings.

Police have arrested two Buffalo men in connection with the incident; 19 year old Robert Bakerx and 21 year old Richard Heary and charged them with murder in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police were able to apprehend the suspects about 7 hours after the incident due in large part to the responding Ferry-Fillmore officers. Their initial work at the crime scene allowed homicide detectives to quickly zero in on the suspects.

After obtaining a search warrant, the Buffalo Police SWAT and Hostage Management Team surrounded a house in the 200 block of Walden Avenue. A standoff ensued for several hours before the suspects surrendered without incident at around 7am Wednesday morning, July 21st.

Detectives say they also recovered the weapons used in the shootings.
