Housing Officers Make Quick Arrests In Fatal Shooting

Buffalo police officers assigned to the recently created Housing Unit played a key role that led to arrests in connection with Thursday night's fatal shooting at the Perry Housing Complex.

Following the shooting in the courtyard area in the 300 block of Perry St. near Louisiana, housing officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.

The traffic stop occurred around 9PM Thursday night at Alabama and Perry Streets, when the officers were told by the vehicle's occupant that someone from a van was shooting at him.

The van was spotted by police and was pursued to Fulton Street, where its occupants bailed out. Several weapons were recovered in the van.

"In quick succession, police officers from the Housing Unit and South District were able to locate the van, and two of its fleeing occupants, recover three weapons, as well as discover that a man had been shot," said Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

Detectives believe the victim was outside in the courtyard when a van pulled up and the suspect or suspects opened fire.

The shooting victim, a 28 year old Perry Street resident, died shortly thereafter from a single gunshot wound.

Homicide Squad and Crime Scene Unit personnel responded to the numerous crime scenes related to the murder investigation.

Police later located a third individual believed to have been involved.

Three arrests have been made so far, in this continuing murder investigation.
