BPD Names New Head of Internal Affairs

Division Captain Promoted to Inspector

Inspector McLellanA 25 year veteran of the Buffalo Police Department has been named as the new Inspector of its Internal Affairs Division.

During a brief ceremony at police headquarters Friday afternoon, February 5th, Harold M. McLellan was promoted to the head of Internal Affairs.

Mayor Byron W. Brown, Interim Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda and Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards led the ceremonies.

The 49 year old McLellan joined the Buffalo Police Department in September 1984, most recently serving as Captain of Internal Affairs since May of 2004.

With family, friends and co-workers on hand, McLellan was officially sworn-in to his new position by Interim Commissioner Daniel Derenda.

Mayor Brown said the promotion was, “An important change in the overall management of the Buffalo Police Department”.

The Mayor added, “Inspector McLellan brings to this position, years of experience and recognized excellence in his service to the residents of our City as a member of the Buffalo Police”.

Commissioner Derenda said, “I believe Inspector McLellan is the right person to lead the Internal Affairs Division at this time”.

McLellan said, “I’m honored by the promotion and I fully understand the importance that this position holds in the community”.

Inspector McLellan is married. He and his wife Ann have two boys; 2 year old Joshua and 4 year old Matthew.
