BPD Make Arrest in Attempted Murder

Buffalo police have arrested a 16 year old youth, in connection with the attempted murder of 23 year old Spencer Cowart of Buffalo, on August 14th.

Sixteen year old Darryl Tarver of Echols Lane in Buffalo, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree as well as assault in the first degree.

He was picked up Sunday night by Ferry Fillmore District Police Officer Mark C. White, assisted by Officers Thomas M. Starkey and John Simonian.

The victim was shot shortly after 11:30PM on Saturday, August 14th, while he was in the vicinity of 43 Sattler. Cowart was shot in the face and head,

Due to the serious nature of his injuries, homicide squad detectives investigated the shooting incident.

Homicide Squad Detectives Scott R. Malec, Patrick J. Judge, Reginald Minor, Michael Acquino and Michael A. Mordino led the investigation which led to the arrest.

"The police department is grateful for the response from the public, and the information provided, which led to the identification of Tarver as the gunman responsible for this attempted murder," said Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards.

Cowart remains in critical condition at the Erie County Medical Center.
