Alert Officers Rescue Crying Cat From Car Trunk

Thanks to two Buffalo police officers a 4 year old feline has another life.

Navarro the cat was rescued by Buffalo police following a routine traffic stop on Sunday night, August 8th.

The incident began around 7:45pm in the 1100 block of Broadway on the city's East side when officers pulled over a vehicle for failing to use a turn signal.

At one point, Officers Jerry Guilian and John Poisson heard the cat crying in the trunk.

When the two alert officers inspected the trunk they found the cat in a cage and marinating in what appeared to be crushed red pepper, salt and oil.

Police arrested the cat's owner, 51 year old Gary Korkuc of Cheektowaga, and charged him with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

Navarro ended up at the SPCA of Erie County and was quickly adopted by a Cheektowaga woman.

The cat apparently was not hurt badly but a few baths were needed by SPCA officials to wash out all the spices.
