Plaque Honors Police Officers Who Served in Vietnam

An estimated 100 or so people attended the Memorial Day plaque unveiling at Buffalo Police Headquarters.

The plaque was dedicated to honor Buffalo police officers who served in Vietnam.

The names of 66 officers, many of them now retired, are listed on the plaque. Two more names are expected to be added to the plaque in the near future.

Mayor Byron W. Brown and Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson attended the ceremony.

The plaque is made from the same type of black granite as the Vietnam Memorial wall in Washington, D.C. The plaque was designed by local artist Ralph Sirianni.

The plaque was four years in the making. Lt. Kenneth Bienko and Detective James Lema were the driving forces behind the project.

Local artist, Ralph Sirianni, designed the granite plaque. It will be on permanent display in the lobby of Buffalo Police headquarters at Church and Franklin streets.
