Breaking News: Tip Leads to Arrest in Homicide Case

Buffalo police homicide detectives have arrested 42 year old Weldon H. Young in connection with the murder of 43 year old Charles Brackett of Landon St.

Shortly after releasing Young's photo to the media, Buffalo police received an anonymous tip of Young's whereabouts. Young was picked up by MRU officers at a home in the 200 block of Riley St., around 8:30pm Tuesday night. Young was brought to Police Headquarters where he was later arrested by homicide detectives and charged with murder in the second degree in connection with the beating death of Charles Brackett.

Detectives believe Brackett was assaulted in his home at about 1am on the morning of February 23rd.

Brackett was taken to ECMC where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Of the 8 homicides in 2009, detectives have already made arrests in 4 of them.

The investigation was led by Detective Sgt. James Lonergan. He was assisted by detectives James Lema, Reginald Minor and Mark Vaughn.
