BPD Arrest Suspect in Sunday Night Homicide

18 year charged with second degree murder.

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have arrested an 18 year old Buffalo man in connection with the Sunday night fatal shooting that occurred in the City's Bailey-Kensington area.

Police were called to Hutchinson and Thatcher Avenues just before 10pm Sunday night, August 2nd.

Detectives believe the victim, 35 year old Jamal T. Jones of Millicent Avenue was in a vehicle when he was shot. Jones was transported to ECMC but was declared Dead on Arrival.

Homicide Detectives have arrested 18 year old Jakota Barnes of Stockbridge Avenue and charged him with 2nd Degree Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

The investigation was led by Detective Sgt. Daniel Rinaldo. He was assisted by Detectives: Michael Acquino, Mary Gugliuzza, James Lema, Mark Lauber, Michael Mordino and Noreen Walsh. Also assisting in the investigation were Northeast District Officers and the Mobile Response Unit.

This was the City's 31st homicide of 2009.
