Buffalo Police Continue Crackdown in University District Area

Raids focus on Guns, Gangs and Drugs

Buffalo police conducted a total of 7 separate search warrants in and around the University District area of the city on Monday night.

Police concentrated the raids on Guns, Gangs and Drugs.

The latest raids continue Mayor Byron Brown’s Zero Tolerance Policy in all parts of the city including the University District.

The operation, conducted by the Mobile Response Unit, Buffalo Swat and Northeast District Patrol Officers and Detectives, resulted in the arrest of 6 individuals, 7 guns were seized including 4 handguns and 1 rifle, plus over $70,000 in cash.

Police also confiscated felony weight Crack Cocaine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

The raids were conducted in the following areas: 100 block of Bickford Avenue, 100 block of Poultney Avenue, 100 and 200 blocks of Shirley Avenue, 200 block of Davidson Avenue and the 500 block of Stockbridge Avenue.

Arrested were: 41 year old Andre Banks of Poultney Avenue, 27 year old Uriah Grant of Shirley Avenue, 20 year old Tyree Lemon of Shirley Avenue, 22 year old Darius Ofield of Stockbridge Avenue, 19 year old Lavelle Reeves of Davidson Avenue and 18 year old Donte Walker of Poultney Avenue.

The charges include: Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, and Criminal Possession of Marijuana.

The raids are the latest effort to reduce criminal activity in and around the University District area. Other initiatives include; additional surveillance cameras, Quality of Life patrols and Bike Patrols.
