BPD Seeking Clues in Death of Teenager

Buffalo police have identified the male found at a canoe launch in the vicinity of Ohio Street and South Street, late Tuesday morning, June 9th. "The young man has been identified as Kowat Rual, of Garner Street, in Buffalo. He was 15 years old," according to Dennis J. Richards, Chief of Detectives.

The nude body was discovered by a passerby, who notified police. Responding "A" district officers cordoned off an area of the Buffalo River Ohio Street Fishing Access Site, an area of land managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, along the river's edge.

Homicide and Crime Scene Unit personnel were called to the scene, and began an immediate investigation.

An autopsy was conducted at the Erie County Morgue. The death has been ruled a homicide, since the autopsy found that the victim died from strangulation and blunt force trauma.

The victim had been a student at Lafayette High School, but had not attended class in the past couple of weeks. "He apparently was not seen by family members for an extended time, but not reported to police as a missing person," Richards said.

Homicide detectives are attempting to track down the activities of the victim, and seeking the public's help in solving this homicide. Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the TIPCALL number - 847-2255.
