BPD Mourns Loss of Highly Respected Lieutenant
The Buffalo Police Department continues to mourn the loss of Lt. Thomas J. Masterson Sr., who passed away Wednesday, November 11th, following an almost year-long battle with cancer. The 69 year old Masterson was the senior most active-duty member of the Buffalo Police Department.
Masterson spent over 40 years in the Department working in several different police districts before finally moving to the Traffic Division.
Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson called Lt. Masterson's loss a "tragedy for the department". The Commissioner added that Lt. Masterson was considered an expert on traffic control and other areas in his field.
Lt. Masterson grew up in Buffalo and attended Bishop Timon High School and then went on to Hilbert College and Buffalo State.
Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral mass held Saturday morning, November 14th at St. Louis Catholic Church on Edward Street.
