Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with a mid January double homicide on Dartmouth Avenue.

Late Thursday night, Detectives arrested 21 year old Byron Howard of Easton Avenue and charged him with two counts of murder in the 2nd degree.

Police believe that the suspect shot and killed the two victims in the early morning hours of January 18th, 2009 at 39 Dartmouth Avenue.

At 6:45am that morning, Buffalo Firefighters responded to a call at that same address. The cause of that fire was ruled an arson by Fire Investigators.

The two victims are: 27 year old Chisha Hawkins of that Dartmouth Avenue address and 38 year old Vernard Millner of Sumner Place.

The investigation was led by Detective Sgt. David Lillis and his crew.

With the latest arrest, Homicide Detectives have now cleared 8 of the 12 cases so far this year. Detectives have also cleared 3 other cases from previous years, given the department an overall clearance rate of 92%.
