BPD Cold Case Detectives Arrest Suspect in 1998 Shooting Incident

Jose Figueroa

Buffalo Police Cold Case detectives arrested an individual in connection with a fatal West Side shooting that occurred over 11 years ago.

Detectives have arrested 31 year old Jose G. Figueroa of Carolina Street and charged him with murder in the 2nd degree in the killing of 17 year old Alex Martinez.

Authorities say the incident happened right around 12:30am, January 29th, 1998, in the 300 block of Grant Street.

Monday afternoon, detectives say that Figueroa confessed to the killing.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Cold Case Detectives Brian Ross, Charles Aronica and Lissa Redmond plus homicide detectives all took part in the investigation. State police also assisted in the investigation.

This is the 8th long term unsolved murder case that has ended with an arrest this year by the Cold Case division. Last year 18 more cases were solved. In the last 3 years, some 40 cases have been solved.
