BPD Homicide Detectives Arrest 16 year old in Isabelle St. Fatal Shooting

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have arrested a 16 year old male in connection with Wednesday night’s fatal shooting that took the life of a 31 year old Kenmore man.

Detectives arrested 16 year old Jerome Thagard of Philadelphia St. and charged him with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Steven Northrup of West Girard Avenue.

The incident occurred around 9pm Wednesday, April 29th. When police arrived they discovered the victims’ body in some brush in a field off Isabelle St. in the city’s Riverside section.

After interviewing numerous witnesses, Detectives were able to establish Thagard as the prime suspect.

“Once again, witness information was provided to our investigators, leading to a suspect, who has now been charged with murder”, said Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

Richards added, “The citizens who came forward with key information brought clarity to a chaotic crime scene”.

The investigation was led by Sgt. David Lillis and Detectives Mark Lauber and Noreen Walsh.

Homicide Detectives have solved 10 of the city’s 15 homicides in 2009.
