Arrest Made in First Homicide of 2008

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have arrested a 19 year old Buffalo man in connection with the city's first homicide of 2008. Detectives arrested Jeramy A. Luscher of 24 Joslyn Place and charged him with murder in the second degree.

Detectives believe that Luscher shot 23 year old Nathan D. Beaver just after 4am Tuesday morning outside of 24 Joslyn Place. Chief of Detectives, Dennis J. Richards, said the suspect and victim got into a fight and then Luscher went inside, got a gun, came out and then shot Beaver.

Late Tuesday night, Luscher, turned himself in,  to D District Police on Hertel Avenue around 11pm.

Buffalo ended 2007 with 55 homicides as compared to 74 in 2006. Chief Richards cited the formation of the Mobile Response Unit, the execution of over 1,100 search warrants and the gun buyback program as three key reasons why the homicide rate dropped drastically in the city in 2007.

Buffalo Police also want to thank the public for their help in many of the homicide investigations. By calling the Confidential Tip Call Line or by e-mailing us, the information that came from the public, help lead to numerous arrests.
