February-2-2012 — A 39 year old man was shot on the front porch of his residence in the 300 block of Guilford Street just before 5:00 this morning. He was rushed to Erie County Medical Center, but died as a result of his injuries. The victim has been identified as Brian G. January-19-2012 — Buffalo police are continuing their investigation into a double shooting incident that occurred eleven days ago, which has now resulted in the death of one of the victims. On January 8, at around 6:30pm, investigating police learned that two men were shot while in a vehicle in the vicinity of Wohlers Avenue and Dodge Street. "The 25 year old homicide victim had just gotten into a vehicle on the passenger side, when an unknown suspect opened fire," according to Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

Suspect in 2010 Triple Shooting Faces Manslaughter Charges

December-19-2011 — A plea deal has been struck, in the homicide investigation of Joshua Korczykowski, who was killed on April 10, 2010. Korczykowski was shot to death, and his 4 year old daughter as well as his brother in law were also struck by gunfire. Pleading guilty to first degree manslaugher, is Gregory King Ward Shaw. Shaw had fled the Buffalo area after the triple shooting, and was eventually tracked to the state of Georgia.

November-03-2011 — Buffalo police are looking for a suspicious man, who rides a bicycle, in connection with possibly three recent incidents involving young boys. At this time, police say two of the incidents appear to be related. Police say the suspect has approached two young boys, one 8 years old and the other 11 years old, in two different parts of the city. The suspect approaches the young boys on a bicycle and asks the kids "if they wanta make some money". At some point the suspect begins taking pictures of the boys using a camera and then attempts to lure them away.

June-28-2011 — Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced that the Buffalo Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred in the 2400 block of Delaware Avenue. Around 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 Officer Lisa Holloway of the Mayor's Impact Team was flagged down by a citizen who reported suspicious activity at an apartment complex on Delaware Avenue near Tacoma Avenue. Buy back brings in over 600 guns

No Questions Asked, Pre-Paid Cash Cards for Guns

Mar-17-2011 — Mayor Byron W. Brown's 4th city wide Gun Buy Back event, held on Saturday, May 14th, brought in over 600 guns. The 639 guns collected brings the total to 2,951 guns that have been turned in during the four buy backs.

"Since 2005, we have removed over 7,000 illegal guns from our city streets," said Mayor Brown. "Almost 3,000 of those weapons have been seized through the Gun Buy Back program". Included in the 639 guns that were collected, over 200 handguns and 178 rifles were turned in.

This initiative is one of several anti-crime measures being implemented throughout the city, including adding more police officers, establishing a new housing police unit, increasing foot and bicycle patrols, implementing a new Violent Crime Task Force and expanding the highly successful surveillance camera system.

HSBC Bank Robbery

May-12-2011 — Buffalo police are releasing additional photos in connection with the May 12th robbery of the HSBC Bank located at 2016 Genesee Street.

Police say the suspect, approximately 25-30 years old and wearing blueish-green scrubs, entered the bank just after 10am, handed the teller a note demanding money and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

BPD Investigate Fatal Shooting of East Side Deli Owner

May-10-2011 — Buffalo police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a local store owner at Masten Avenue and Riley Street, around 7:15pm, Friday night, May 6th. Police confirmed the identity of the victim as 48 year old Ali Hababi. "The victim was shot while inside the store at 177 Riley Street, after a pair of black males, believed to be in their teens entered the store, one of them armed with a handgun," according to Dennis J. Apr-21-2011 — Buffalo police have arrested an individual in connection with an HIV case. Sex Offense Officers arrested 20 year old Darryl Fortner of Sherman Street in the city and charged him with: Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree. Detectives say that Fortner engaged in sexual intercourse with a female victim while he was HIV positive and did not tell her he was HIV positive. Read more.
